Dirk Michels studied chemical engineering at Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Krefeld, Germany. Since September 2000, he has been a member of the scientific staff at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) in Stuttgart. From 2006-14, he held various positions with responsibility in projects and personnel in various companies in the paint processing industry as well as in consulting. Since 2014, he has been working as a project manager in the department of coating systems and paint­ing technology at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA). His major topics are the development and planning of innovative coating processes as well as the optimisation of existing coating plant concepts.

Dr. Meiko Hecker, DE

Meiko co-founded AOM-Systems in 2013 as a spin-off from Technical University of Darmstadt (Germany). Besides other areas, he is responsible for the business development at AOM-Systems. He managed the market introduction for the analytical measurement division, the market introduction for the automotive paint division, and he is currently managing the business creation for AI-driven sensor solutions at AOM-Systems.

Hande Kilic is a chemical engineer (BS) and Ph.D. Candidate with extensive experience in corrosion and painting skills. As a Senior Corrosion Expert, she was certified by the International Corrosion Authority, NACE (AMPP - The Association for Materials Protection and Performance) in Houston HQ. She works for an automotive company within the VW Group, MAN AG, since 2012. The German company develops and produces buses and delivers to the world with high-quality voice. She has 9 years of experience in paints, protective coatings, paint shop processes, adhesives, material science, paint and corrosion standards, and corrosion protection. She is responsible for the management of all corrosion processes within the company under the R&D department. 

Daniel Pittaluga, USA

Senior Manager – Paint Group, Production Engineering

A native of Argentina, Daniel Pittaluga also lived in Brazil before relocating to the United States in 1979. He is fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and English. His automotive career began in 1984 with Ford Motor Company in Atlanta. As a process engineer in paint he focussed on waste reduction – a personal passion – before being promoted to engineering manager at Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville. His productivity advances there eventually led him to a career with Toyota in 2002. Daniel began with Toyota at the company’s manufacturing headquarters in Erlanger, Kentucky. There he managed the paint engineering group and expanded its role across North America. In 2010, he joined supplier engineering development, supporting suppliers through quality and capacity improvements. Daniel spent two years at Toyota’s Design Center in Michigan developing a simultaneous engineering group before being promoted to senior manager. He returned to production engineering in 2017. His current responsibilities include productivity improvement projects for Toyota Mississippi plant and new paint shop construction in Alabama, a joint venture with Mazda and Toyota. Daniel holds a BSc in chemical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, as well as an MSc in business administration from Georgia State University.

Alberto Pinzello, IT

Alberto Pinzello is currently a Sales Executive in IoT & AR in Rockwell Automation, promoting innovation in industries through consistent usage of real-time data and Augmented Reality (AR) solutions. Prior to joining Rockwell Automation, he spent 5 years in OSIsoft as Sales Executive, managing named accounts and large enterprises within different sectors (O&G, Power Gen & Utilities, Pharma and F&B, Discrete Manufacturing) and 8 years in CD-adapco (now part of Siemens PLM) acting as technical sales for Computational Fluid-Dynamics (CFD) software simulation. He held a PhD from Politecnico di Torino and Universidad Politecnica de Valencia. In his spare time, he enjoys running outdoor, swimming, and reading books.

Thomas Behl, DE

Thomas Behl studied automotive and engine technology at the Technical University of Munich and graduated in 2010 with a degree in engineering. He then joined the accident research department at the Allianz Center for Technology, where he moved to the repair research unit in 2012. Since then, he has been supporting and managing projects in the areas of mechanics, bodywork, and painting, as well as general projects.

Dr. Carlos Vignolo, DE

Carlos Vignolo graduated in 1991 with a PhD in Physics from Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst DAAD at GSI TU University in Darmstadt, Germany. He has over 25 years of international experience as a Physicist at BASF in Color and Quality Labs. He started in 1992 as Head of Quality and Color Labs at BASF in Argentina. In 2000 he came to Europe as Head of Color Management. Carlos is currently Project Manager at BASF Coatings for Applied Colorimetric, Methods and Data for Automotive Coatings including Color Management and Harmony 4.0. Carlos’ research has yielded several patents including Index for Determining a Quality of a Color.

Phil Collins, UK

Phil Collins studied Maths & Computer Science at Cambridge University and has since worked for over 35 years in electronic pre-press, computer graphics, and high-performance digital systems. He has experience in a broad range of innovative printing technologies, specializing in the delivery of breakthrough performance improvements. As Director – Advanced R&D for Global Inkjet Systems, he leads projects which deliver the next generation of competitive advantage to GIS' customers.

Holly Steedman graduated from Anglia Ruskin University with a degree in Integration Engineering and has held various roles in Product Management and Technology Development at Marabu GmbH, Industrial Inkjet Ltd, and Fujifilm Speciality Ink Systems Ltd. Having spent her whole career in the world of print and coatings, Holly uses her passion for these technologies to provide solutions that fit the application. As Business Development Manager at Integration Technology, the leading specialists in industrial UV and UV LED Curing, Holly embraces the challenges of integrating UV LED curing into new and emerging markets and facilitates the implementation of the technology to help move the project from concept to completion.

He is a part of the Konica Minolta Sensing organization, responsible for sales of spectrophotometers and related applications in the region of Eastern Europe.
