Javier is the CEO of Real Club Valderrama, rated as one of the top clubs in the world. A former PGA professional, he holds a business degree and an MBA in hospitality and club management from Florida State University. He also holds a master’s degree in sports management from IESport School, a turf management diploma, and since 2015 he’s been on the CMAE Board.
He started his career in 1997 as a PGA professional at Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, one of the top golf clubs in Europe. In 2003, he became general manager of Fuerteventura Golf Resort in the Canary Islands and in 2006 he was appointed general manager of Finca Cortesin Hotel, Golf & Spa, where he led the start-up of both the golf course and hotel. Under his leadership, Finca Cortesin hosted the VOLVO World Match Play for three years and the hotel was awarded by Conde Nast Traveler as the best non-urban hotel in Spain. Since 2011, Javier has been leading RC Valderrama and has recently overseen the refurbishment project of the championship golf course, practice facilities, and clubhouse, and has brought it back to a leading European Tour venue where it now hosts one of the most important events, the Valderrama Masters. He has also been the key figure in the profound renovation and modernization of the Club that has greatly improved its financial and membership situation.
A native of Linköping, Sweden, Katarina has been a part of the Swedish Golf Federation in different capacities going back to her time as a player on the national squad (1985-90). She started coaching for the girls’ national team in 1994 and served in various roles through 2007 when she briefly left to help establish a professional golf team together with Annika Sörenstam (Team Annika). Katarina returned in 2011 and since then she has been the head coach of the Swedish National Men’s and Women’s teams. Katarina has numerous coaching qualifications, including being a Titleist Performance Institute golf fitness instructor and a Trackman certified professional (level 2). Many of Sweden’s best professional players have been part of the Swedish Golf Federation’s program as youth players.
