Lennart Schleicher is a biologist and president of the VNU, a German association of envi­ronmental professionals. He has 21 years of experience as an EHS manager and auditor in a company with about 70 production plants in 22 countries. He has been a member of the German EMAS Advisory Board, head of the working group EMAS revision, and still is a member of the European EMAS Experts Committee. He participated in the technical working groups of the EMAS reference documents for car manufacturing and fabricated metal products and has been a speaker at conferences in Brussels, Shanghai, Berlin, Belgrade and others.

Per Renman has a background in the construction industry where he worked on large com­plex infrastructure projects across the world for 30 years, in which many of these projects included underground work. He spent his first 15 years in production and then in various positions related to EHS, which include BU global EHS manager. He has a degree in civil engineering. He has been the group safety director for the Boliden Group since 2014 with a special assignment in improving their safety culture.

Alberto Croce, 50, is married with two daughters and based in Milano, Italy. He graduated in mining geology at University Statale in Milan (1994) and holds a diploma in interna­tional safety and risk management (Oxford Brookes University, UK). He’s been working for more than 17 years in health, safety and environmental protection for oil and gas, automation, power and electrical grids industrial sectors, and for more than 15 years at ABB he held managerial positions both locally and globally. Albert has significant experi­ence in managing HSE topics working with unskilled workforces worldwide in EPC projects (HVDC, OGP midstream and upstream industrial sectors), service contracts and factories producing transformers and electrical components. He joined Siemens in October 2017 as country EHS officer for Siemens Italy.

Andrea is an accomplished senior environmental health & safety leader. His professional achievements are supported by a strong scientific and technical background. With General Electric (Alstom until its acquisition in 2015), he is based at the Baden headquarters in Switzerland as the senior regional operations manager. He is the EHS pole leader for gas projects Europe & Africa, in charge of developing and implementing the overall EHS strat­egy. Andrea promotes EHS at 360°, liaising with customers’ senior management during the sales phase, delivering training from executive management to project site engineers, and being a keynote speaker at international EHS events and conferences. He is a certified lead and senior auditor for several management systems and a senior trainer for behavioural safety, leadership programs, and accident investigation courses. He leads the development of trainers and deployment of EHS courses accredited by IOSH and the accident investi­gation training. As a solid foundation to many advanced professional certificates, Andrea holds a bachelor’s degree in forestry and environmental sciences and a master’s degree in environment and risk analysis.

Giuseppe Cailu started at Electrolux in 2007, and in 2012 he became the company’s EHS global director for major appliances. He served as the primary EHS leader for the organisa­tion, including all 35-plus manufacturing locations and about 37,000 employees worldwide. His key responsibilities included the development and business-wide integration of global EHS strategy and KPIs, monitoring of regulatory and management system performance and global policy deployment for all sectors. Giuseppe also developed a global company-wide website to communicate EHS performance, documentation and best practices; during this time the company experienced a global injury reduction of more than 50 percent. In 2016, he moved to VP of global EHS and lean manufacturing, where he leads the continu­ous development and expansion of the Electrolux Manufacturing System (EMS) that sup­ports the achievement of cultural and operational excellence at all production sites. Prior to Electrolux, Giuseppe spent time at Italtel and Magneti Marelli.

Tim Briggs is a Past President of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). He has been involved with IOSH in many different roles. Tim was employed at Leeds Beckett University as the Course Director for the BSc Hons Safety Health and Environmental Management Degree, the Post Graduate Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health and MSc in Occupational Safety and Health until retirement through ill health in 2020. He has since returned on a part time basis, to assist the University using his knowledge, experience, and skills to deliver teaching. He has acted as an external examiner and external advisor to many Universities in the UK and worldwide in helping develop advanced Health and Safety courses. His wide involvement in developing Safety Practitioner knowledge and skills in the international arena has allowed Tim to work and develop Health and Safety courses not only in Singapore but also in Malaysia and Hong Kong. Tim has spoken at many international events on his favorite topic of helping organizations develop whilst keeping the workforce safe. He is a graduate of Huddersfield, Nottingham Trent University, and Leeds Beckett University.

Carla Schön has a bachelor’s degree in science education and geology, as well as a master’s in environmental management. She has worked for a number of years as an environmen­tal consultant and as a teacher, both in Sweden and in the USA. When Carla started at Electrolux over 11 years ago, she managed the company’s environmental due diligence, environmental remediation and investigation projects. Two years ago, Carla took on a new challenge as EHS director for the European operations of Electrolux. There has been a lot to learn about safety but her background gives her a unique perspective helping the organisation to see safety in a new light, focussing more attention on people be deepening the company’s safety culture and improving behavioural management.

Davide Scotti, 42, graduated in 2001 with an honors degree in management studies from the University of Aberdeen. He then joined the oil and gas industry, working four years for Vetco Gray. In 2005, he joined Saipem in Milan, where he contributed to the development of the “Leadership in Health & Safety” program (LiHS) and managed its rollout globally. Today he is head of HSE culture, communication and training at Saipem. Since 2010, he has been general manager of the LHS Foundation, a non-profit organisation constituted by Saipem with the aim to share the “Leadership in Health & Safety” methodology within both the industry and society. He is the creator of “Italia loves sicurezza”, a movement gathering hundreds of professionals and citizens who want to impact the safety culture in Italy. He is author of “Il libro che ti salva la vita” (The Book that Saves Your Life), an Italian best seller with 6,500 copies sold. From 2015-18 he was HSE technical director of the So­ciety of Petroleum Engineers in Italy and he is currently VP of the Club Prevention of Large Organisations, created by AIAS, Italy’s biggest safety professional association. He is an international safety speaker and likes to create and share content through social media.

Thierry joined the Arkema Group in July 2011 through the acquisition of the Resins business of Total and he moved to the Direction Safety Environment Group in May 2012, after more than 25 years spent in the field from plant manager to managing director through to indus­trial director in different countries (UK, Germany, France). He was mainly in the chemical industry but as well in the steel, stainless, and aluminium industry. In that case most of the time in France and in Asia. Thierry has a proven track record in project management from the design phase to the commissioning phase with a specific emphasis on safety, health and environment issues. In industrial safety, his experience is based on 3 axes: technical, organization, and behavioural approaches. He is an internal AIMS (Arkema Integrated Man­agement System) auditor and a SafeStart © trainer. Thierry has deployed such programmes over the last couple of years, being involved in the Safety Culture module development and deployment. In December 2016, he moved to the Adhesives business of Arkema and became the global HSE director for the Bostik Group.

Phil Scott has extensive experience in both the regulation and management of hazard and risk in the major hazard industries, and in leading investigations of major accidents in the chemical and oil refining industry sectors. Phil joined the Chemical Industries Association in 2009 after previously working with the UK Regulator HSE. In his current role he heads CIA’s work in safety, security and the responsible care industry programme – including leading the chemical sector’s national approach to raising process safety, leadership and security standards. Phil represents CIA and the UK chemicals sector internationally on various major hazard safety and security issues via CEFIC, OECD, the International Council of Chemical Associations and as a member of the Chemical Weapons Convention Advisory Committee.

Maria Galainena de Carlos started her career as a wind energy expert in the renewable business. She joined Enel Green Power in 2010 and spent nearly eight years in various technical- and business-orientated positions, and two years ago she became the HSEQ manager of Enel Green Power worldwide. In this position, she links even more the techni­cal and business units with HSEQ, with the aim to achieve zero accidents and promote a cultural change inside the organisation. A highly-adaptable manager with strong analytical skills, Maria has very good communications skills and broad technical expertise. She’s adept at solving complex problems through perseverance and creative thinking, and she’s a team player with a strong track record in establishing and leading multicultural teams to successfully deliver a diverse range of projects.
